After seeing the latest post, I feel a bit down. I hope he goes far, but I'm annoyed at teenage self wasting away those years drawing sub par "anime" drawings. I never spent any of it properly looking into animation and art properly, and it stunted my growth as an artist. I am an animation student now, and have completely changed that way of thinking, but I'm still in the developing stage. In animation, is it never too late to change, or is it better having the talent at a younger age?

Everyone has a different path and a different life. Theres no use in comparing yourself with others because there is always someone better and younger then you. Its not wasted years, its just how you became interested in the things you like - your tastes will continue to change but they are never wasted…as long as you still learn you are doing wonderful. It is NEVER too late to change - because changing is part of the learning process of art and animation and we will continue to learn until we die and even then we wont know everything.
Talent from an outside view seems to come naturally, but there is always work and research behind it. Some people may look like they whip up a picture in minutes thats flawless but theres years of practice to get to that point.
Don’t be discouraged - its not a death sentence if someone is, in your eyes , better/younger then you or has reached a goal before you have. It doesn’t mean you’ve gone the wrong way or done the wrong thing, everyone has a different learning curve and different outer influences that effect our artistic life and choices.I work with people who vary in their art styles and skills - we’re all different! and we all got to this point in different ways.
Dont dwell on what you ‘could have’ done - concentrate on what you can do right now! and have an ehug from me as well :D
